Instructional procedure: Instructional strategies and learning tasks (including what you and the students will be doing) that support diverse student needs. Your design should be based on the following:
  • Having the students read the passage at their own pace
  • Correct any mistakes the student may make along the way
  • Ask the student what the reading passage was all about to make sure they have a good sense of reading comprehension
Instructional resources and materials used to engage students in learning.

Reflection
  • Did your instruction support learning for the whole class and the students who need great support or challenge? No, it was only done for one person
  • What changes would you make to support better student learning of the central focus? Include the entire class on the reading exercise instead of just one student
  • Why do you think these changes would improve student learning? Support your explanation from evidence of research and/or theory.

  1. Hi Earl,

I think the focus of your lesson is to (1) sound out words, which is the letter sound association, phonics, or decoding, (2) comprehend by retelling or answer the questions (it needs to be "measurable"). Therefore, your learning outcome could be (1) students will decode and recognize words in context, (2) students will retell the passage or answer questions regarding the meaning of the passage.

You will then need to design learning activities that will reinforce the above learning outcomes, for example, using pocket charts to manipulate the decoding and encoding skills, and talk about the meaning of the passage. The worksheet is also a good way to reinforce, with reinforcement of some helpful websites. The lesson is typically one block (60 to 90 minutes) or mini-lesson 15-20 minutes. Be careful of the length of your lesson.
