Week 8 – Assignment #3

From what I learned from watching the 2 videos, they reminded me of my time during the course of my field observation at Walnut Elementary School in Uniondale, New York (nearly a month ago this year). The way the teacher had his students break out their journals during the course class time along with his command over the way students responded to his orders without coming off overbearing showed his professionalism. Also during my field observation (in addition to what was scene in the video), the teacher also got the kids to open up and express themselves through a question and answer conversational flow initiated by the teacher thus allowing the students feel comfortable in his presence and convey their thoughts into a communicative rapport language with the teacher. During the course of watching the 2 videos, the teacher had the class view him as a respectable easygoing instructor that motivates them into discussion with interesting subject matter that matched the appropriate age material to cover in class. The strategies they used for literature discussion happened to be once again the "q and a" strategy that asked the class how they got into the text they had to read. They became what he described as a “Post-it reader”. The "post it" strategy is used for vocabulary purposes for the students, in which the end goal is to find information. The teacher during my field observation did something similar to that through having the entire class watch a video watching and recant what they saw as a way for the teacher to test the students memory and comprehension.
